Do you feel safe in your Long Island neighborhood?

We live in a affluent community and pay extremely high taxes to do so. You hear countless stories of home invasions, buglary and crime. Do you feel relatively safe in your own neighborhood? Please provide your town if commenting to this post.

I live in Mt. Sinai, and no I don't feel safe. Not that it's a bad area, it's that a lot of the time, there is no one around. Anything could happen and no one would see it.

I grew up in Queens, and I felt safer on the streets there. People were on the street, or looking out their window, or just generally paying attention to what was happening outside, nextdoor, whatever. You knew that someone would see what you were doing or if something was happening to you.
